A dental implant is a small titanium post that replaces the root of a missing tooth. Once it has healed into the bone, a crown is fitted on top. That gives you a fixed, natural-feeling replacement that doesn’t rely on the teeth either side. It’s a well-established treatment, and for many UK patients the main barrier isn’t the dentistry but the price.

This guide explains how implant treatment works at our partner clinic in Bucharest, what it realistically costs compared with UK private prices, and how the trip is organised end to end.

Why UK patients look abroad

Private implant treatment in the UK is expensive, and NHS-funded implants are rare. A single implant with its crown typically costs around £3,000 privately, and larger cases climb quickly into figures most people don’t have spare. At the same time, NHS dental access has become genuinely hard to arrange in much of the country.

The saving in Bucharest is real, and it’s honest. It comes from lower running costs (staff, premises and lab overheads are simply lower in Romania), not from cheaper materials or clinical shortcuts. Same modern equipment, same quality materials, a very different cost base. For most patients the total saving lands between 50 and 70%.

What implant treatment costs

The figures below are “from” prices at our partner clinic, shown next to typical UK private prices.

TreatmentBucharest, fromTypical UK private
Implant post (with abutment)£570 (€670)~£2,400
Implant with crown (package)£800 (€940)~£3,000
Zirconia crown£280 (€330)~£850
Bone graft£155 (€180)~£900
Sinus lift£700 (€825)~£1,200

A note on prices: figures shown are indicative “from” prices, not a quote. Your exact price is fixed in your written treatment plan after a dental scan, once the clinic has reviewed your case. UK comparison figures are typical private prices and will vary. There are no hidden fees: your plan sets out exactly what’s included.

Some cases need extra groundwork before an implant can be placed, such as a bone graft or a sinus lift. These are billed separately and are set out clearly in your plan, so there are no surprises later.

How the treatment works

1. Assessment and planning

Treatment starts with photos and any X-rays you already have, followed by a consultation by phone or WhatsApp. If you go ahead, a CBCT 3D scan at the clinic maps your bone precisely so the implant can be planned in exactly the right position. Your written plan is confirmed after that scan.

2. Placing the implant

The implant post is placed under local anaesthetic, using the plan from your 3D scan. Comfort and sedation options are discussed with you beforehand. This part is usually quicker and more comfortable than people expect.

3. Healing

The implant needs a few months to integrate with the bone before the final crown goes on. During this period you carry on with normal life, and we stay reachable for any questions once you’re home.

4. The final crown

Your crown is designed and made in the clinic’s own in-house digital laboratory using materials such as Katana zirconia, then fitted and adjusted to your bite. Because the lab is on site, fit and turnaround are tightly controlled.

Full-arch options

If you’re missing most or all of the teeth in a jaw, a full-arch solution such as All-on-4 replaces the whole arch on a small number of implants. We cover this in detail in our All-on-4 guide, including realistic pricing.

Guarantees and aftercare

Your implants and crowns come with a written guarantee, set out in your plan before any work begins, so you know exactly what’s covered and for how long. Before you fly home you’ll receive clear written aftercare instructions, and back in the UK we remain your point of contact by phone, email and WhatsApp. Your treatment is fully documented, so your own dentist can handle routine check-ups.

How many trips, and how long?

It depends on your case, and your plan tells you honestly before you commit. Many implant treatments are completed across one or two trips. Because Bucharest is only around three hours’ direct flight from London, Manchester and Birmingham, a second visit (where one is needed for the final crown) is straightforward to arrange.
